Happy New Year To My Deck Bretheren!

I hope everyone has a strong 2009.

Keep up the good fight and do not fall prey to bottom feeders looking to drive pricing down!

Took the family for lunch, then watched Dick Clark on our brand new 50" plasma tv.
My kids bought it last week for our 35th anniversary.

Re: Happy New Year To My Deck Bretheren!

I hope everyone has a good year. It's hard to be optomistic with the way things look. I'm hoping for the best tho.

The year is not starting out well for me either. My webguy has left me out to dry. He changed his server & never told me about. My site has been down for a month & I didn't find out til right before Xmas. Tells me via email just call & he'll work me threw the process, but never takes my call or returns them. Written him off at this point so I'm starting the year paying out $ for a new one with none coming in. The doc that I was supposed to strip off his crappy geodeck & re-install ipe has postponed job. Now I'm trying to get the next guy on my schedule ( and the only one ) to start his next week. No one has called for a quote in at least 3 weeks.

I hate Jan., it's always cold & usually I'm setting on my arse with nothing to do. Only good thing about jan. is the fishing down at the coast, but if I'm not working it's hard to spend $ going to the coast for the weekend. At least I can go trout fishing down at he Guadalupe river, can be wading in 1 hr. from the house.

Happy new years guys, best of luck in'09.

PS. Somehow John I think you'll be back.

Sorry to hear that, Mark. Is it really that bad in CA?

I just finished my last booked job of 2008 today and have zero booked for 2009. This time of year always stinks so I'm just circling the wagons for now.

You could head out this way & sip a Starbucks, grumble and plan with me!

It's about all you can do right now. I've got 102 weeks of work left, if it snows a few times.

I do have a few tentative projects... but no one's gotten committed, and I've already pestered them... and need to let them "sell" themselves.

Re: Happy New Year To My Deck Bretheren!

We have a $100,000 fence job for March. not sure how I'm going to finance it, but it's with a major construction company I've done business with for 25 years.
We have 3 residential decks left over that are on hold.
We have 44 decks for a builder to start in April. each is $3500. The deal is payment on completion for each deck.

And we have 4 or 5 fences to start. I'm hoping that the new year gives me a reasonable amount of work, and enough crews to do it.
