Gorilla Deck?

Anyone ever install the plastic decking product called "Gorilla Deck" ?(mis-spelling intentional, that's how they spell it). It's an interlocking decking system, designed to provide a dry room underneath. If you're familiar with it, how do you do the posts coming up through the decking, so that it doesn't leak?

Actually, you can't flash the post, and have it be of any benefit, with this particular decking. Each groove of the decking directs the water to a rain channel inside the decking. If you flashed the post, that would keep the water out that runs down the post, but all the water coming towards the post from the groove of the board would still dump out underneath.

I managed to contact the manufacturer's sales rep today, and he said the solution is to caulk any grooves in the board where they intersect with the post completely with color-matched caulk for their entire length. Effectively making that particular groove non-functional.

gorilla deck

This is in response to the guy that is looking into gorilla decking. If you will be using it a ground level and you don't care ft it leaks through, it could work okay. If you are trying to use it above an area that it will leak through to the underside DO NOT USE IT. the website says watertight over living areas but this is not so. Run as fast as you can away from this product. I had this gorilla deck installed and it leaked through every where. I had to spend over $21,000.00 to waterproof the area to stop my house from rotting away. It is not watertight.

Could you please elaborate on your experience? Where exactly were the leaks and where were they most prevalent? At post cut-outs or just plain everywhere arbitrarily? You are the only one who responded to the question with any substance. Eric

gorilla deck

i used this product because on their website it said that it could be used be used over living areas and that it was water tight. i had an expienced installer but after the install we had leaking not at post, but water was coming in through mutiple areas. it seemed that were the channels snap together would fill with water and overflow the channels.the deck is properly pitched for drainage and with a light rain it was mostly okay, but in a heavy rain it leaked alot. another area was an area that i needed longer boards than what they had and they sold me a splice to put in the middle, this didnt work at all. long story short, if you are using this on an area with nothing below it it will be okay. DO NOT USE OVER LIVING AREA. the company did not stand behind their product at all and it cost me over$20,000.00 to fix this mess .:mad:
