Gaf Elk Warp
Well I did a elk deck last November and appearently 1 month facia board started twisting but got really bad in July, and only my facia board, all trim and decking is perfect, so I came to the conclusion that the chemical in the PT is making it twist, any take on this fellas ?

with the least likely theory. Fasteners/fastening would be a first suspect. Pix might help.

Re: Gaf Elk Warp
Its not related to the PT, might just be the Elk/Gaf boards. You need to put a few screws in those things.

Re: Gaf Elk Warp
It a every day pratice/mistake to install the decking flush with the frame no overhang, run the facia/skirting up flush with the decking . There is no way water is not going to get inbetween the facia and the frame. If you did this thats the problem not the chem in the pt.
If you do have an overhang of some sort It might be a good idea to use counstrustion adhesive, close fastening, and solid framing for the facia. Riding a Harley is a whole lot like riding a good Horse, diferance is the rodents leave a pile of dirt so you can see the holes..The cages give no trace what they are going to do next. JonMon |

Re: Gaf Elk Warp
I did screws every 18", it's the 1/4" facia
, I'll tell ya this all the screws in the world wouldent work, I can't even kick these things straight, it's rock solid, the board is flush wit facia and deck board is flush with joist, so there is that gap for water buildup in there, but that's how I do all my facia, some of my post got pics

Re: Gaf Elk WarpQuote:
I've done two Elk / GAF decks. Both needed rework. I've also fixed two more with the same materials. I won't use Elk decking EVER again. If it's insisted upon, then a clause will be stated that I am NOT responsible for it's stability. The stuff moves like crazy and yes, one of the decks I did had the same 1/4" skirt wrap on it. I have to fix / rework that one this month. Warped. One of my posts (the solid core expensive ones) split! Didn't even survive one year. I'll post pictures of it when I go back out to do the repair. Thankfully, it's on Elk's dollar as I followed manu's instructions to the T. Stay the heck away from it!

Re: Gaf Elk Warp
1/4" Fascia??? holy crap you would need to screw it every 6" and I bet it would make it.

Any fascia- you've gotta glue, screw, and trim nail!
