Facia/post Wraps/trim For Stringers W/IPE?

What is a good material to wrap around the ipe decks?
2x10 rim joists should i go with the ipe 5/4x10?

do you guys normally buy the 4x4 solid ipe posts or use 1x material to wrap pt lumber is this cost effective?

whats a good way to trim out the steps/outside stringers etc.?

any help/pics would be great

thanx fellas

I use 3/4 x6 ipe for all the trim ususally we run the skirting up and down, same with the stairs. The bigger the lumber the more movement its the same with ipe, I used ipe 4x4 s when I first started they would check a little so before instal I fixed them with tightbond 111/ipe sawdust. Now I install pt 4x4s in the frame, cover them with white trash bags until the decking is cut around them, then wrap them in the 3/4 ipe. There are some pictures on my site. www.deckmastersllc.com

Hey John,

I just took a look at your site and noticed these two pics in your gallery. One is labeled as an IPE deck and the other is T&G redwood. Aren't they the same deck?

If so, which decking did you use? Or is the T&G redwood the siding on the cabana?

I know Mac several of those pictures need some work far as the language goes. Thats actually ipe 1x4 on the decks and T&G redwood on the outside, inside and I faced off the cabanits with it. And I just got that site rebuilt to!!!! J

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Mucky...

After I went back and looked at the pictures again before I posted, I _thought_ the T&G redwood might be referring to the cabana siding. All in all, a nice looking project.

Mucky, good luck with the project. Post some pics of the method you used in the Carpentry Picture Post forum when you're done....
