looks real sharp couple questions, Is that at a waters edge how far are your outer footings/beam from that retaining wall, and was that retaining wall built with geotex mat? Again looks sharp.

Nice! If I could make one suggestion about deck pics...put some furniture on them if you're going to put pictures in your portfolio.

How about a happy family on the deck relaxing and the kids are playing, not beating each other (same goes for the parents).

Nice work!

That's a beauty.

What product was used to seal it?

Beautiful. Very nice work. Now get a deep penetrating, semi trans oil on that cedar. Are the handrails a hardwood? They look like 5/4 meranti

Yes, Waters edge. While doing that rail system over the boat slip, I slipped and fell hitting the scaffolding below spinning 180 deg. and landed straight down on my skull into the ice. I got right back up and finished that rail system. I spent the next week recovering. Really a moment of clarity for me I thought about being a paraplegic, scary.

1 ft. OC. for the bay-out doubled up. the rest was 1 ft. OC. with an 18" overhang If I can remember. That wall was all over the place. No geo-mat. backfill not compacted at all. No drainage system. Not one of mine.

What product was used to seal it?
I didn't seal it. I spray water over the deck on a cloudy day. No shadow and it brightens up the deck for pics.

The handrails are actually Trex decking (with deckorator spindles.)
Joists are all blocked for critters.

Re: Easy Now..

You did an awesome job. Good idea on wetting it down for the pictures.

Personally I'm not a fan of the design or the railings. I really dislike the Dekorators' spindles but that just my personal preference. Please don;t think I'm knocking your work because I'm not.

I suppose you could take my comment above incorrectly.
The job looks terrific. Nice workmanship, knowledgeable construction, clean and simple design. Lovely pictures.
Very nice. You can work for me any time.

DecksEtc - Do you have another aluminum/steel baluster you like, or do you just not like metal balusters on your decks? I'm always interested in other's informed opinions on materials I myself use!

Standstrong, you did a very nice job with this one - the zig zagging of the herringbone pattern really makes the deck "pop" - lines are sharp, clean and the structure on the whole looks really good. Nice job!

Mac
Mac,

Not to hijack this thread but, no there really isn't a metal baluster that I personally like. I have used them on both cedar and PT decks at customers' requests. I can't really pinpoint what it is, I just don't like the look of them. My preference is either wood (cedar is my first preference, of course) or tempered glass with wood frames.

As always, customers get what they ask and pay for but I would never use anything but cedar on a deck on my own home.
