Duraspin Deck Screw Problem

I got a call from a customer today who gave me some disturbing news. There have been a handful of screws breaking on the edges of his new deck. (about 1 month old) The deck is only 12' wide and I decked it w/ 2x6 PT. Has anyone else had this problem? If many more start popping, I'll contact the manufacturer and see what they want to do about it. He said he's actually heard one break as he was sitting on the deck and it sounded like someone broke a window or something.

I'm thinking I may go back and replace the edge screws w/ some from another manufacturer anyway just to stay ahead of any problem this may cause. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem w/ 3" Senco duraspin screws.

Thanks,

Josh

Re: Duraspin Deck Screw Problem

I'm guessing you'll get no where with this. With the junk lumber we get, screws will break...that is the only guarantee you'll get. I went back to a deck that I built in the fall and I chit you not there were 2x10s with a 1 inch gap between them...grabbed the level because somethng must have moved....nada. PT shrinks

Last year went back on 1 deck and replaced a couple of dozen also because nothing was done to the deck....Had another with no broken screws, but it had been treated a week after it was done...go figure
