Dryspace And Mid-span Blocking?

How the heck do you run the joist caps when there is midspan blocking installed? Looks to be impossible to keep the cap continuous without doing some serious surgery on all the blocks.

Anyone know?

I am 80% done with a job and now the HO tells me they "don't want to see any wood" under the deck. This means we are installing Fypon column wraps, Azeking the girder, etc....

PITA!

Before I give them a price for all this, I want to know what the deal with Dryspace is because I've only heard negatives about it from two different dealers and read about the leak issues online.

Also, has anyone ever installed 120V lighting (recessed in a dryspace system). If so, how???

If your talking bout the TimberTech product it is a pita all together. The gutter system is marganial at best, it cant go around blocking with out a lot of spacers,no holes can be installed in it or thru it. J.

If you've got the headroom, you could install tapered 2x to each joist and mount the DS joist caps to those. That way, they'd be below the blocking.

Haven't had any callbacks for leaks myself on the DS roofs I've installed...

Don't know if you'll be able to successfully cut holes and mount lights in a DS system, seems like a recipe for failure. If you get the job and come up with a solution, please either drop a line here or PM me. I'd be interested in possible solutions for this.

Thanks guys...I just priced out this little change order and it's nearly $7,000.

I'm not sure they'll go for it. If they do, at least I charged for the aggravation.

I appreciate having you guys here to bounce things off of. It's a huge asset to me. THANKS!
