Doing Odd Jobs For Good Customers

Just wondering how many of you do odd jobs for your good customers? I have one right now that will probably keep me busy the rest of the winter. Started building a deck for them this fall, they pay when I ask for the next draw no questions, are extremely friendly, buy me lunch when I'm there, etc. So far I've got the deck, started finishing out a room addition they added off the garage, they said they want an attic ladder added to their attic access in the garage, they also are looking to remodel their masterbath sometime soon. It's good winter work for a couple really good customers. Just wondering how many other deck builders do "odd" jobs for their good customers.

Dan

If we know what we are doing, yes. If not, no. After 30 years in the construction industry, there is not much that we won't tackle for a good customer.

Good point, & I agree. I won't do anything I'm not comfortable with or don't know what I'm doing. That's a great way to lose a good customer & taint your good name.

We have a property surveillance list for out of town clients done once a month. Just a walk through....

just a few examples....

Set up Christmas tree

Flush toilets every other week

Change the ice in the trays

Change all the batteries in smoke detectors and clocks

We have one full time employee that plays handy man doing a wide range of "honey do" items.

I have a small handyman company in SC. One of the things that keeps me going between large projects and real estate rehabs is the fact that I have found a niche in personal services. The bottom line of my card says...

All the little things no one else will do

I also do small odd jobs for customers when they need them done. It's good money and they are happy to have it done. Many times people like will me to tackle smaller jobs to see my personality and work ethic then they have larger jobs to tell me about when the punch-list is complete. I have one client that needed a small 10 minute $50 repair turn into a months worth of work and HOME MADE lunch everyday!!!!

That's exactly what I have going on right now. Can't beat a good home cooked meal.

I lived in Wilmington from '97 to 2001. Great town. Moved to Indiana for some reason, oh yea, to be closer to my wife's family. Women make you do some crazy things. I heard Front Street Brewery shut down. That's a shame. No reason to go back now.
