Decking Material(IPE/correctdeck/Etc..?)

Just looking for some help.Building a 14'x26' deck w/landing and steps.I'm torn between IPE which I know is beautifull but the installation is killer I dont think the maintenance is too bad though is it?
Is correct deck a good product/What are general pricing/maintenance/installation differences?

If any other suggestions on decking please advise.

Also is there any hidden fasteners for the Ipe if it is not pre-grooved?
Does fastenmasters IQ clips work on 45 degree decking if so about how much do the clips cost/where to get them?

Man, are you just baiting RobertCDF? He'll be along shortly to bring you up to speed on CorrectDeck!

As to your other questions,
A composite board with a hidden fastener system will be similar installation to IPE with a hidden fastener system. Maintenance on IPE is like other woods, stain it periodically or let it weather to grey. As it's a hardwood, it will stand up substantially better to weathering than cedar or redwood (or god forbid, pt).

Is this a deck for yourself or for a customer? Do they have a preference of composite or IPE?

Pricing is actually pretty similar (at least in my neck of the woods) - I'm looking at 2.75/ln. for IPE and 2.25 - 2.65/ln. for decent composites.

Don't know of a HFS for IPE that isn't grooved - unless you want to predrill the underside of the IPE board. Doesn't sound like fun to me...

FastenMaster clips do work on angled decking, they've got instructions for that type of installation on the box. Pricing and availability? check with your local lumberyard. Anyone who sells FastenMaster products (LedgerLocks, GuardDogs) could get the IQ system ordered in for you and tell you what it would cost.

Good luck, welcome to the forum, bring your questions and knowledge and good attitude and stay a while!

Mac

I use a lot of Ipe , twp116 finish, the clips cause more problems than they are worth, for the no fastener look I go with T&G ipe. the install is not all that bad to us Im sure as a floor man you could pick it up pretty fast.

Never even seen corect deck. John

i am going to keep this short as i am writing from my pda in kansas. Something to keep in mind is your envrioment. in colorado we have harsh uv rays and ALL wood will need to be restained every year.
as far as correct deck goes... i think it is one of the best products out there. in fact it is the only brochure i hand out when i meet with people.

I agree, 95% of the composit decks we install are correct deck. Just did 2000 sf of Trex, hated it! Sent back about 1/4 of it for contamination (recycled contamination).
