Deck On Rubber Roofing?

I am building a deck on a low sloped roof at my house. My plan was to run 2x4 pt sleepers and nail my decking to that. I have a couple of questions

- what do I do about uplift?
- Should I put something (piece of rubber) on the bottom of the sleepers to prevent it from rubbing threw the rubber

any suggestions would be great

Re: Deck On Rubber Roofing?

yes you should put rubber under the sleepers I usually put 2 strips of the same rubber, the scrap that's always left over
uplift all the ones i have done have posts that are connected to the framing below the roof deck or they are nooks in between dormers so the wood siding holds them down
or just use "ipe" for decking the stuff is so heavy if it lifts its time to leave anyway
seriously i would put in posts and secure them to the framing and flash with edpm rubber

Re: Deck On Rubber Roofing?

When we do roof top decks its about the same as the EID said, The roofer leaves me enough material to lay down strips under the stringers just for a little extra. Even over here in wind blown Okie land I dont have any lift problems.

One thing I install the rail posts daped out 1 1/2'' + the size of the decking/stringers + the rim joist. then land the posts on the decking, not fastened to it, bolted/laged to the rim. If the rim is 1 1/2'' I double that up where the posts are going with some back blocking.

Do not fasten Anything tru the roof and be very cearfull during install far as damaging the roof like steping on screws, nicking it with the edge of a board droping the drill bit first into it things like that. J.

Lots of decks built like that in my area. Strip of rubber under the sleepers and the weight of the deck to counteract uplift. I'm not sure the building codes even address this sort of installation.
