Deck Branding

I see fences all over that have a little 6"x8" ish sign screwed to them with the fence companies info. Was wondering if anyone did this to their decks in a sort of out of sight but still visible area? What about actual branding with a hot branding iron or a router with those letter templates I see? Might be a conversation piece where someone might not normally ask who built it. Also would be useful if the home changes hands & the new HO wants some deck maintenance, who do you think they would call first. The guy with his name on the deck. It's all about brand awareness.

Just some thoughts.

What are yours?

Dan

Re: Deck Branding

I always see those signs and they piss me off even when they are not on my property. If I was a HO, I would not want my contractor advertising in my backyard. I would ask permission before I did it anyway

The only possible way to do with class would be to use a cast bronze plaque, not a cheap plastic sign. I have seen this done on new homes and it says "Custom crafted in 2007 by XYZ Builders". The signs are small, but if you notice one, they are classy enough to be "keepable". I would bet they are about $100 per piece in quantity.

I agree those signs do look sort of cheesy. Especially when you see an impressive fence, then the sign. That's why I was thinking of a nice custom branding iron or something. Placed almost of out of sight. Keeping it small & simple. Maybe including the year it like the example you mentioned above. Asking permission would be a good idea too.

Re: Deck Branding

I have noticed Granit companies doing this on their commercial granit jobs. I'd want it for free if your going to put your name right on it.

Re: Deck Branding

Funny though.

I actually do this with a branding iron on any custom furniture I build. Those are usually put inside a drawer or cabinet. Never on the sides or face.

Re: Deck Branding

Depends on the brand, some people spend a small mint on high price products and they want everyone to know.
