Re: Crappy Decks. Post The Crappy Work You See Here
I built a landing once that had no post. The landing set on the end of a beam that went 20' into the floor of the loft and the landing hung out over a sunken living room. Did the same thing for a door coming out of back of a bonus room over a garage. about 14' high. steel beam that time.

reason why he didn't use a 45 on the support brace was because someone would probably walk right into it. easy fix though.

Re: Crappy Decks. Post The Crappy Work You See Here
I like the gravity defying stairs. Would be interested in what kind of attachment system they used and were can I get some, I presume they would be in the same aisle as the "sky hooks".

Re: Crappy Decks. Post The Crappy Work You See Here
No real post. Just some 4x4,PT at least, three ft into the ground. 2x12 and 10's laid on the ground to carry the joists. Joists going the wrong way. It was all around bad. I still can't believe the non supported butt joint in the middle of the 12 ft span.

Re: Crappy Decks. Post The Crappy Work You See Here
one of the worst ive seen was a second story deck put on, they used 2x4 joists, with a 2 ply 2x6 beam sitting on 4x4's which were on deck blocks
around here, 2x8 joists are minimum, some inspectors question why 2x10 wasnt used, and 3 ply 2x10 is required, no questions asked unless we use 4 ply 2x12 , 4x4 is only allowed for handrail posts which are let in, 6x6 is required,. as for the deck blocks only allowed if the deck is unattached |

Re: Crappy Decks. Post The Crappy Work You See Here
A couple more - some people always choose the lowest builder...
The last one with the brick building is just some more fine craftsmanship performed around here - I forgot its in the county... I guess to tie it into this post, this is why brick is not suitable for attaching a ledger board to. |
