Correct Deck Vs. Eon

Doing a proposal for a re-deck, customer (an absolute zero maintenance guy) wants Eon. He picked Eon solely because it' not a composite. I'm inclined to agree about that part, only one that we've done (Trex i think) makes me cringe every time I see it since the first few years. Searching the threads I've seen several praises for Correct Deck. Anyone can say how it holds up over time? The comp stuff I've seem all seems to get pretty rough after a while. I hate to sell anything if I don't know it's track record, but I don't know anything about Eon either. One point for the CD from my point is joist spacing. It's a herringbone, and Eon calls for 10"oc which translates to 8"oc + hanger hassles, etc on a re-deck. Eon say 14"oc, which sounds like I can just sister up. Also there is a teak hot tub sunken into the deck and all the caveats about harsh chemicals, suntan lotion, bug spray, what-not, in Eon specs seems scary to me.
First hand knowledge from the "Deck Gods" greatly appreciated.

Re: Correct Deck Vs. Eon

Eon is crap... Get a piece of it and leave it outside in the cool night air and mesure it in the morning. Then leave it in the sun and mesure it about 4:00 PM and let me know how much it grows! I bet it will supprise you.

Correct Deck CX gets my vote... but only the CX line if you want it to really hold up and not stain. Next best would be procell (and that is now AZEK deck, they got bought out)

I'm starting to see a trend develop here Funny but their own web site (besides just the shape of it) was what gave me a bad feeling.
Thanks for the responses--somehow don't think the west coast results are gonna change this one.

Re: Correct Deck Vs. Eon

Thanks for all the info, but with that, and all the research I did, and all of the driving around town to pick up samples--HO wife still wants Eon. Based purely on aesthetics. Everything else is "too plastic-y". Nothing else we could say made a dent, and husband doesn't give a fig as long as there's no upkeep
Partner is in full "customer is always right" mode and my tongue is still sore from bitting it. Ah well!
BTW original PT deck we put down for last HO 11 years ago ain't as bad as I'd a thunk, and I swear no one has done anything but sweep since I Duck's Backed it when it was 6 weeks old.

Sometimes people are just dumb. Let them be stupid and hang onto a few pieces of scrap so you can show the next moron that wants it how crappy it is.

Re: Correct Deck Vs. Eon

I've done a bunch of Eon decks. I advise against it, but I warn my customers of the drawbacks if they insist on using it. It's not altogether bad, but you really have to be careful about following the directions when you install it.

I also recommend using the new 1/4" spacers rather than the old 1/8" spacers for two reasons. The 1/4 inch spacers allow you to replace a damaged board mid-field (you can't with the 1/8") and also allows you to tweak your board spacing and adjust to out of plane joists better than the 1/8" since you can still get to the screws after the course is laid down.

Also DO NOT USE THE EON RAILING SYSTEM. It will fail under seasonal temp changes. I have installed two that have not had issues, but they were small stoop-type railings. Everything Eon tells you about installing the decking tells you to leave plenty of room for expansion and contraction, yet every part of the railing system has to be screwed down tight. Explain that to me. I know of many, many eon railing failures.
