Composite Decking and Staining

Anyone out there had a problem with staining on thier composite deck jobs? Specifically with CorrectDeck brand? Seems to me this brand stains more than others, any comments?

Sure come in and here and insult my favorite brand. Personally never had a call back for a stain... I tell people to get a grill mat to prevent this from happening.

no hard feelings

Didn't mean to insult your favorite brand. Personally I think its great (especially the new CX product), I was just wondering if there were any problems. If not call backs, how about when you get the material from the lumber yard (if that is where you purchase it)? Any problems with the material showing up and needing to clean it prior to instillation? How does your supplier yard the material? Maybe its just a problem with my supplier not storing the decking correctly?

I haven't used the CX yet because it's new to the area. But a rep did a demo and it seems like the most stain resisistant I have seen to date. I have gotten some epoch from lumberyard that was stained, which pissed me off. It always came off in final cleanup though. You shouldn't have to purchase something new with stains on it that's not right...

In the 10 correct decks that I have done I had ONE board that had a mark on it. But I did not need it anyway so not a big deal at all. And it looked like it would fade to match anyway it looked the same color as the decking does when it fades.

Correct deck has been our composite of choice. (The only one I have worked with personally) Love the way it goes down. However it does mold and mildew very easy if you don't keep it covered while storing. Several times we have had to scrub floor boards because of old water stains. It develops small black spots that kind of fade out on edges. I guess customers don't realize it happening over time or just accept it because we have only had one call back and it was for a large circular stain that looked more like they set something on the deck that caused it. The new CX has just priced itself very close to Pro Cell so when given a choice PRO Cell becomes the better choice. We have boards laying in the yard for over a yr. uncovered and look new. Good stuff. They just need more colors. Talked with a guy who has worked with several others and said they have noticed no problems with them. So who knows? We are researching another line for a mid priced product with ease of install to replace Correct deck after price increase. Anyone work with Timbertech's Floorizon model? Seems to be an easy install.

I love living in a place were ther are no mold issues. I dont like procell because it is 100% plastic right? I just never like the feel of 100% plastic stuff. And neither do my customers its hard enough trying to convince them that correct deck is the way to go. We may not have mold here but we are so close to the sun that you NEED to stain wood EVERY YEAR at least. And it is tough on the composites they fade a little quicker too. I even heard of a weatherbest deck that turned orangeish pinkish

So if you want a deck that will not stain, fade, or enable mold growth you would have to go with 100% plastic? Is that what I am hearing? Besides Pro Cell (which I've never heard of), any other 100% plastic products out there?

your best bet for a "perfect" deck is concrete. It is becoming very popular on million + dollar homes. You just have to build the frame stronger and put a slope to it. stamp + stain it. I would bet it might be a little less than composite.
