I ordered enough Timbertech decking for two decks. My lumber rep said if you pick it up I will knock off 10%. I said okay and took my trailer to the yard and it was all banded together and very heavy so they set it all on with a big forklift. My trailer has a 4" lip of steel up the sides and on the front so I saw no need to tie it down since it was banded and heavy. I got half way back and had to make a slight sudden stop not to bad. Man I heard it and felt it coming but I could do nothing. It smashed my tailgate so bad. The whole middle of the load slid forward out of the stack. Saved $350.00 on the decking spent $550.00 replacing the tailgate. Its slippery alright! Mike

We replaced a timber tech last summer for the same reasons. On the T&G make sure you have ventilation. The deck we replaced was built on top of large stone wall foundation with no ventilation. Almost every deck board cupped really bad. It was a shame to waste all that decking but thats what happens when the installation guidelines are not followed.

We just built a deck last week and used the timber tech earthwoods tropical walnut decking. Stuff looks really great but scratches if look at it. I was not really impressed with it initially but will see how it looks after weathering a bit.

We install mostly Correct Deck CX, but have a few quotes to do that are all about price. Any suggestions on a decent, lower end composite? We are paying about $2.60 for the CD.

It's gonna be tough to find a composite for less than that, and even if you do, are you willing to warranty some cheap crap just to save your customer some $$?

Some people are willing to accept lower quality for a lower price, right now, I don't offer what they want, the other guys do. If it were up to me, every job would be CD.

I dont think people know what there looking at in general. Every chick who thought she had good taste was going to design and flip houses. As the market changes and people dont think there going to get back that investment in a months time they are going to spend less for fear they'll be stuck. My personal opinion. I wish the public got into the automotive business instead of the remodeling world the past 8 years.

The only decking materials that dos not have problems with delamination, structural failure, or mildew, are wood and aluminum. The only truly maintenance free product is the LockDry aluminum decking which would add 10-15% to the cost of a project but for most people the savings in future maintenance and future deck repair and replacement make this a relative bargain.

Thats good insite Man. The Wallet is deffentley not always right but they are Always the Wallet.

Guys I keep coming back to what I have tried and had it work over 8 years now. Put a coat of finish on the soft composite right away even TT takes it. I use TWP so I cant say if all of them will work but any high grade outdoor finish should do the same. The stuff drinks it up and makes a weak point a strong one.

Its the top of composite that starts to go right away, the finish on it protects from stain stuff that gets on later and so it scraches a little wipe will minamize and really scrach smach its a deck!

Its a given, very hard pitch, because the composite guy's market the man made completley out of range for us to mention doing this but its a damm shame because it would work for most all of them..
