Composite Decking

I'm really sold on the CORRECT DECK CX, but my customer is not. The deck is a single level deck, 36" off the ground and is 26x20 and will consist of a White aluminum railing system. Cost seems to be an issue as the Correct Deck is about the highest i've priced. I would just like some opinions on prefered companies such as Trex,Timbertech, Procell etc. What company makes a good product(and which ones are junk), and hidden fasteners are a plus. Thanks for your opinions.

Re: Composite Decking

Why not go with an all-PVC product, such as Timbertech XLM or Azek Deck? It's much lighter than your typical composite, and more stain and scratch-resistant. Pricing is similar.
Seems to be all our customers want here at the Jersey Shore.

Using the product's correct name will help to sell your expertise to your customer - it's CorrectDeck CX, and yes, it's a "long run savings" sell. Expensive up front, but pays off in the "long run."

There are a multitude of threads here that cover the different brands of composite boards - be inventive with the search button and you should find more than 20...

Re: Composite Decking

And of the others you listed are either crap or will be in the same price range as CX. If they want to spend less money then they will have an inferior decking. That being said look into evergrain as they will be your best for cheaper.

Re: Composite Decking

CS was just a typo MAC, but thanks for pointing that out. I had several product samples with me when I was going over the design with the customer. I was just looking for some personal experience/advice on product recommendations since I've havent used composite's & want to steer my customers in the right direction.

But anyway, thank you all for your input. I was also in contact the Azek and am waiting for a product sample from them.

I like working with Trex, Most people here don't, because they say it fades, well all composites fade. I just finished a Trex Deck Friday.

Fading has nothing to do with it, Trex grows mold.

Mold will grow on anything in the correct environment. I have seen mold grow on PVC, Concrete, Glass, and even Cheese.

Re: Composite Decking

Problem is, mold grows on Trex even if you keep it clean. Not so with PVC. I've upsold every one of my customers to PVC decking from composite based on the following:

4. More lightweight, less load on the deck.
3. Much more scratch-resistant
2. Almost stain-proof
1. Everyone else is getting it.

Re: Composite Decking

I used to install windows before I decided to go on my own and get my license. Majority of the windows I would Install would be Vinyl. Always during the months of Nov-Feb I would go out on service calls because homeowners would complain about the vinyl turning orange. Soon as I get there I would already Know what it was. Mold, Orange Mold. These were quality vinyl windows not home depot junk. Check Google for Mold on Vinyl.

Re: Composite Decking

Well first of all trex is junk for more than just fading however I will talk about the fading first. Brown turning to concrete gray... Sorry that is not an "acceptable" amount of fade. Bubbling and peeling... Once again not acceptable. Crumbling is also a big problem of theirs.

Here is my recomendation for all the doubters out there.
Go to http://correctdeck.com and request samples of their CX line. Now put this outside for 5 years and let it weather. Also toss out a piece of trex just so you can see.
I know it takes a while but in 5 years you will see what some of have been talking about. BTW it will cost you NOTHING to try this and you may just learn something.

Thanks Robert, I ordered some samples from them. I remember checking out their site about 6 months ago but thats about it. BTW what are you paying for a board ft with CD? and do you like their railings?

Re: Composite Decking

Well, they ended up going for the TT Twin Finish Planks with their hidden fastener system in Grey. It seems like a nice product, but seems much less scratch resistant than Azek or CX. I guess time will tell if they made a good choice.

Leaving a copy of the care and cleaning instructions will go a long way towards a happy customer.
Recommend Jomax, the stuff really works well to keep wood composites looking good and mold mildew free.
