Choice Composite Decking Turned Into Junk

In 2001 I replaced the pt decking on the entry ways of a big condo with Choice planks. This involved striping out the steel frame with pt 2x6/screwing down the decking. All of the work was at least 10' off the ground several were like 30'.

A Lady had cracked one into just from walking on it, inspection showed the material is completly coming apart it looks like old particle board left out in the weather. The little wood chucks will crumble in your hand.

None of the spans were over 16'' most less than that.

This is the reason I hate composite material those ol boys just toss stuff out there with a lot of glossy photos and wild claimes when really they have no idea whats going to happen down the road.

Re: Choice Composite Decking Turned Into Junk

John, my 2 cents is that they used to much of the scrap wood in the product. I've seen some isues with fiberxx that scare me. Your lucky that you project is off the ground so they can't blame you for improper air flow.

I love SOME composites but as a whole the idea is a little weak----mix garbage wood with plastic----two different materials that don't like each other---the uv rays kill the plastic which exposes the wood fibers to the elements.
