Certainteed Railing

I'm about to install a Certainteed Evernew Railing system on a procell deck. On 1 section, the railing I need is 10' minus a few inches. They sell a 10' railing section. Is this 10' section going to be stable (no sagging) or should I put a post in the middle and have 2 shorter railing sections?

I install certainteed railings quite a bit, only once have i installed a 10' pc ,and it was between two brick collums,it was pretty strong, and no sagging, the aluminum inserts are still pretty ridged. your post installation is very important, are you using there metal post supports? wood post ? It must be well blocked and bolted in either installation and it should be fine.its obvious it will be a little stronger with a line post, but the 10' should be fine for normal use.

nywoodwizard,

thanks for the reply. I am using the metal pipe posts bolted to the PT structure. You are right that adding a line post in the middle will make it stronger.

I may add a post in the middle just for the extra strength. Have to think about it a little more.

Instead of adding a post, why don't you install two "cripples" 1/3 of the way in beneath the bottom rail and the top of the deck. These are either included in the kit, are available as an extra, or you just cut down a spare baluster. The cripples prevent long sections from flexing down if someone puts weight on the rail.

Its not the sag that could be a problem its,its 5 people leaning against it and not securing the post properly, that could be a problem.
