Bone Saw
Hey Chris, I remember a little while back you talking about a steam heater you made for bending composite. I was wondering how that was working for you and if you could post the specs and maybe a few pics too?
Thanks. Anyone else with effective heaters to bend composite materials can chime in as well. I know about the one in PDB magazine... But that is a few too many dollars for right now. If I like bending then maybe I will get it.

Re: Bone Saw
Hej Rob, Hope you're "killing" it this year, it has been crazy here. Just picked up another project very similar to the clover leaf project over in jersey. Anyway I constructed a box out of 1x12x16 cedar facia, I rabbeted glued and finish nailed the 3 long sides and end pieces together and the lid has lath on the bottom side to form a "rabbet" when closed. At one end I used a couple of 3/4" brass barbed nipples and assorted threaded bushings to create a "through hull" fitting. I used some automotive heater core hose with 3/16" holes drilled in it about every 10" the length of the box with the end capped off. same hose on the outter fitting going to a 5 gal round gas can on a turkey fryer. to make a rack in the box I uses 3/8" all thread nuts and washers going through the box about every 16"

Re: Bone Saw
Thanks, I think I will poke around with that a little bit and see what I can come up with.
Sorry to hear about your mother in the other thread. I hope she is doing better.

Re: Bone Saw
pics would be sweet! How long does it take to heat the pieces? Any pressure relief valves on the tank for safety?
Anyone tried the torpedo heater method that Trex has outlined in their manual? Basically a propane heater blowing through a concrete form tube. I'm looking to start bending. Bone, love the photos of that clover leaf deck! Awesome work! |
