Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

Anyone ever use Bison supports for a rooftop deck over bitumen roofing? I was thinking about it as alternative to laying down hard foam sleepers.

Re: Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

I have used them, but not on a roof deck. I used them on a very low deck on grade.

They are very easy to work with and do a great job. Ordering is a pain in the neck because there are 9,000 parts and variants.

I also had/have a big problem with their distributor to this day. He owes my money for material I returned and has been dodging me since August. I saw the guy at JLC Live and I nearly confronted him, but I didn't want to lose my cool in a public place.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY Bison deck supports from Specialty Deck Supply. As far as I'm concerned they are crooks.

I was last week at the Trex gathering and I heard a few guys talking about Specialty Deck Supply, saying the same thing about having a problem with them.

Glad to know I'm not alone. Seems like a shady distribution operation to say the least.

Trying to buy these things is painful. Still no call backs or e-mails from anyone. What's the deal?

I have not used them, but I did get samples from the people that make them. You might try them.

Re: Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

Chris, I'll try to track down some info. As I recall the original company that developed these is Japanese, and the American affiliate UCP is a licensee. I think they're called Buson in Japan but I might be making that up, because google didn't turn up anything on buson. We have been selling decking in Japan for many years and it is commonly placed this way, over EPDM or similar roofing. I'll try to find some more info, sorry you're having trouble with the supplier. The sleepers are starting to look like a fine idea.

Re: Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

I have decided to go with sleepers for rooftop decks, but I have a project for a low level deck over concrete slab so I really want to try these things for that purpose. Buzon is the maker in Europe.

Bison makes their own variety in the U.S. from what I am learning. I have found a dealer for Buzon on the other end of the country and will go with them until an easier solution is found, (as pertained to distribution).

You should just buy the company, Marty, and straighten them out. Great product with TERRIBLE distribution and VERY, VERY shady distributors. It's so bad, I would not use them again if I could figure a way around it. I certainly would not buy them from Specialty Deck Supply.

Re: Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

Greg, I think you're giving me too much credit for my financial means! But it is true that at one time we took a pretty serious look at getting involved in the distribution (this was before UCP got involved). We've done some other accessory distribution since then though, with Rain Escape, and found that we're really not that good at it as a manufacturer.
Chris, good forensic work - I was mispelling Buzon.

Greg, I ordered from Specialty Deck Supply and they look like they just took the money and ran. Have you had any luck tracking them down?
Thanks

Re: Bison Deck Supports For Roof Deck

I have been using the Bison system for the past 4 years on a fairly regular basis. The product is easy to use, and once you do one or two projects ordering becomes simple. I have purchased all of my product from specialty deck supply without issue, and had no problems with credits or refunds.
