Anyone Ever Built A Tarpezoid Deck?

How do you make your railing posts on the corners if you want the posts on the deck and not on the fascia? Would you rip the posts to match the angle?

Re: Anyone Ever Built A Tarpezoid Deck?

I'd position the posts to be in line with the two parallel sides - visually, I think that would look better. The ends of handrails down the angled sides could be cut at an angle to fit the post edge. They wouldn't be on the same exact spot on the post edges but they would be the same distance away from the edge of the deck (more important).

You'll get a more secure connection at post bottom by having it tight to the rim joist/ledger board and blocking around it too.

Here's a diagram of what I'm thinking...

Re: Anyone Ever Built A Tarpezoid Deck?

You guys are awesome. Thanks
I guess that's the only way.
I'm going with galvanized metal 3x3 square rail posts placed with horizontal wood slats on the flat. Any recomendation on what kind of wood would last (not sag or warp) when placed flat. I'm thinking of using 1 x ipe or mangaris ripped to 3" and span 4 or 5 ft.
