Alternative Concrete Mixes
Pros/cons and opinions on the following:
1. Pre-mixed, bagged concrete (just add water) compared to 3:2:1 agg/sand/porltland mix. Which one do you use and why? Anyone add extra portland or other additives to pre-mix (calcium, etc.)? 2. Using the 3:2:1 concept, what about going with a 5:1 ratio of recycled concrete aggregate to portland. Any reason not to do this? 3. Similar to #2, what about using 5:1 ratio of 3/4 minus limestone to portland. Again, any reason not to do this? This is mainly for setting fence posts, but also for deck post supports. |

Re: Alternative Concrete Mixes
The premix in the bag could use some extra portland cement. For dock footings I will use portland, mesh and stone. For walkway pavers I use portland and fiberglass mesh which is hard to find now. Years ago I use to make a mix for between the logs in log homes, white portland, lime and I think sand, the stuff would burn when you cut your hands.
