30 Year Wood Gate

I need to build six wood gates and I would like them to last 30 + years because I might last 30+ years and I don't want to do them again. I was looking to do an aluminum core and I have a yard of ladders that have a few dings and are not allowed on the job anymore.

Here is my prototype.
I'll probably go with 6 stainless hinges on each side.
The T-drive latch -stainless or aluminum.
The Keeper probably 2 cane bolts stainless or aluminum because the I don't think I'll be able to find the double drive in the material I would like.

I swung on this one for a few minutes and it didn't budge. 215 lbs.
I'm thinking 2 half gates might help keep the wind from wrecking them.
The horses are gone and they're not comming back. They ate a few gates.

I wanted all Iron but I got out voted 1 to 1. How does that happen??

Any other ideas for the 30 yr gate?? If I don't hear from you I'll get back in 30 and let you know how I made out.

Firts off i think if you want that gate to last 30 yrs.You need to prestain "penetrating oil base stain" the wood before you build them and they will need to maintained every couple years.

I can do that. What product would you recomend?? How much of a problem do you think I'll have not being able to penetrate the core for maintenance?? This is in Colorado. Semi arid low decay zone.

I can ship you some Gray Away stain to Colorado.I have a customer in Beaver Springs and he loves the Gray Away.

What do you mean getting to the core?

Is that gate all cedar it looks like it but that yellow is throwing me off to look like PT pickets? The grain doesn't really look like pine tho?

See if you can find locust. It's good for at least a century even in the NE.

Look at old towns out there and find out what they used.

I plan to put wood on both sides of the frame.

It's all cedar. I'll pm you and get some info on your product.

You just have to lay all the wood out and stain all sides give it a day to dry and after you make your cuts just touch up where needed.

Ok no problem feel free to call me anytime it would be easier.
