Way To Test Lightin Transformers?

Anyone know a way to test Hid or any type of security lighting transformers? Not only to see if they are dead but how much life is left. Since there is high voltage coming out and labels half the time are gone what do you compare against? Obviously, you can just get a new one and be done with it but curious as how to test under these conditions.

Thanks

ballasts manufacturers such as advance and others provide nice troubleshooting guides that are usually available online also.

I doubt it. Try a lamp... if it doesn't work, put in a ballast kit. No tester needed.

No way I'm aware of for testing life remaining. This is like predicting how much longer a used car you're about to buy is going to last.
