Question

In-wall Timer Load

A client wants an in-wall timer (Leviton 612-6230M-W Decora ) to control a 1500 watt in-wall bathroom heater. The timer specs say it is OK for 20A inductive load but only 1000 watt incandescent load. I think this is due to the transient nature of the inductive load versus resistive load. Therefore it would not be suitable for the 1500 watt heater. Is this correct? I want to check before I talk to the client.

Also, if this timer cannot be used, is there another one that will handle the load and is not institutional (metal cover) looking? I've done some web searches and haven't found one>

Thanks

Thanks Leo, but the client doesn't like the sound spring wound timers make - wants something electronic.

Re: In-wall Timer Load

Last I checked, there are no device mounted electronic timers rated for resistive loads in the 1500 watt range.

Then the only way to do it is have the timer control a contactor.

Problem is I don't know where you will be able to put the contactor, and sometimes they hum.

Re: In-wall Timer Load

Thanks Leo and B&C, the Intermatic 1200 series looks good for these kinds of loads. Leo, I didn't look far enough in your 1st list. Sorry

Thanks to all!
