U S Competitive Edge And Where We Stand

Guys,
I am based in the Silicon Valley, and had had the "opportunity" to see killer engineers like the current VP of UTStarcom have the US "diss" his ideas, and have him go back to China and get an audience for his ideas.

We have to WAKE UP as a country, and see that the brain drain is for real and find a way to keep top technical talent HERE in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend Bruce was won back through Mao Tse Tung's great city ideals. I went through ShengZhen with him last year, and he had me take pics of Mao's billboards showing China's Shenzhen as the ideal city.

WHAT ABOUT THE US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????

He is now a US VP for UT Starcom, but was educated in the US.

I am in the Silicon Valley, and I can tell you that the salaries offered those of intelligence to leave the US are high. We need to do something about this!

We can just sit back and watch this happen, or we can organize and find a way to keep US based technology in the US.

I know most of you are electricians, and I have chosen this route as I wanted to work with technology that couldn't be exported..................but is this really the way to help our country?

Any and all inputs are welcomed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111

I have to say that nobody from China has ever offered me a job. I'll stick to putting in paddle fans, and let the whole China thing up to others.

You all remember when in the early 80s when Japan could do no wrong? You also all remember when they were scaring the crap out of everybody when they were buying America one piece of real estate at a time on the west coast?

Watch Gung-ho with Michael Keaton, it's more prophetic then you would believe.

But I want you to know that because our buildings can't move overseas, YOU and those like you represent the inteligencia in the US. Do your job every day with pride and know that you cannot be outsourced.

Know that in you, and those like you, the US is served.

There is a LOT of electrical knowledge that resides with the ELECTRICIANs! Even though they send all the EE jobs overseas, here is where the knowledge will stay as they can't outsource buildings!!!

This is my whole point.

I find the hotels in China to be some of the best Internationally. Also its not rare for young chinesse to comeup and ask if they can practice there english on you. But the food is expensive. A steak in China will set you back 80 american. However they do have American fast food like KFC and Mcdonalds. This is where they have come up and asked if they could practice there english on me. Finally the pedistrian traffic is unbelivable. You can get sucked in when walking.

Re: U S Competitive Edge And Where We Stand

Brendakeen,
If you can persuade your peers to purchase two books, it may start the ball rolling nationally to take back our Country. I am referring to "America: Who Stole The Dream" authored by Donald L. Bartlett and James B. Steele, published in 1996 and "War On The Middle Class" authored by Lou Dobbs and published this year. Both books will show how our Country was sold out to Wall Street's interests. It used to be that only the blue collar workforce was affected by the policys of the President and Congress. But now as you noticed, its hitting home. In my neighborhood, a factory had a caucasion workforce about three years ago. Now it is all Oriental except for management. The wages paid to the Caucasions had to be no more then $14,000 to $16,000 on average, and those with 20 or more years, about $20,000. I knew two women that worked there and the only housing they could afford was an apartment. China is not the only problem, there are other countries too. Wall Street is either importing workers from India or outsourcing jobs like yours over to them. Here is a true typical story that is happening all across America: A computer programmer working for AIG was encouraged by management to go for a higher college degree and he was within a few months of getting it, when mamagement told him and his peers that they were going to be dismissed so that the company can better compete globally. Losing their jobs was bad enough, but their company also told them that they would have to train their replacements or lose their severance pay. So the programmer trained his counterpart from India and afterwhich, he found a job paying 1/3 less. Its people like you and myself that have to get the word out that Congress no longer represents the people and we have to do something to fight back. It is recommended that if anyone cares enough to bring back the "American Dream" and to secure a future for our children, then everyone of us must change our political affiliation from democrat or republican to Independant. If enough of us do this, then both Parties will have to listen to us and roll back all their wrongdoings against the poor and the middle class. If this occurs, we will be a force to be reckon with. As a retired member of my local, I am trying to convince the members that this is the only way out to take back our Country.

Yes, the Silicon Valley "elite" clientele now wants to put off remodeling - we are still busy but we have many friends who are begging for work.

I want everyone to know what is happening in this country - the media says that the economy is back - if it is back and thriving, then how come so many of my former coworkers are 1) entering the trades 2) moving out of the country, or 3) losing their homes and declaring bankrupcy?

I don't really trust Nancy Pelosi to fix it!

I am also consulting for 4 high tech companies - ALL of which have outsourced design engineering teams in India.

The US doesn't understand that what goes along with lower costs and higher profits is a loss of the technology and intelligence.

That is why I want the electrician's to know that they are what is going to be left where knowledge resides - once all the EEs become extinct like the dinosaurs.

Re: U S Competitive Edge And Where We Stand

i've been telling people for years that "they can't send this circuit to New Delhi to be repaired..."
the same thing happened afer WW2. I don't remember the guys name, but the whole Japanese business model was an American idea that big business here rejected. He went there and made it work for the Japanese.
The way things are going, with nobody going into the trades, we'll be getting more than brain surgeons by the time I die..

[back in the 70s, there was a slump in the aerospace industry and they were paying triple engineers custodian wages to sweep empty hangars in the Northwest]

[I think everyone knows what is happening in this country, but are either can't do anything or are getting a piece of the action]

ever hear of a guy named Satan?
