Transformer Education
Hey, all. When I was going through my apprenticeship, the school had made the unfortunate decision to replace the transformers class with a fire alarm class. Now the school does offer a journeyman education program (including a transformers class); however, being the father of 11 month old twins, I have not had the time to go and take this class. I had always told myself that when I got laid off I'd take the class, but I've been working for seven years straight (NOT complaining!).
Here is my question: Does anyone know of a good book on the subject? I ride the subway to work and have time to read. I'd really like to learn more about them aside from the basics I do know. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Transformer Education
I don't know of any books(I'd have to dig through the books I bought, to find what was issued).
They changed the curriculum on us 2 years ago, but recently went through a very difficult fire alarm week with wiring a very intensive trainer of every device you can imagine, including programming. We were the first class with the new trainers, and luckily there was a guy on our team that's been doing fire alarm(at that hospital) for two years. |

Re: Transformer Education
Here in Chicago, 99 times out of 100 the A cards run the raceway, and the C cards pull and terminate. Based on what I've seen,it's challenging work, especially on large hospital jobs. I've never had to really do any fire alarm work other than demolition and running conduit.
I've been working on a building for a year now (10 story base build) I ran all of the Lutron controls, pipes, panels and what have you. I'll post pics of the job when I have some time. About 150,000 feet of pipe on the job. But still I didn't touch the FA stuff. If you do find out the name of the book(s) please pass them on. |

Re: Transformer Education
Have you called your local JATC board (134 right?)?
Best to use the book that is the standard for the course ~ even if you cannot take the course.

Re: Transformer Education
If they have or can get the book, that'd be the best price. Being they'd give it to you at their cost.
