Track Lights

We just finished a large clothing store, that had 150 track heads another 50 reccessed and some decorative Lts. Anyway the buildiing inspector came and said that anywhere were we had screwed the track lts to the drop ceiling grid a tie wire had to be installed directly above this screw to the grid. when someone asked him why he said that this had all come from 9/11. no big deal ceiling guy took care of it but if anything came out of 9/11 as far as building codes i would have thought it would have been adequate stairwells or more emergency lts track lts falling would be the least of my concerns what about when one os those 300 pound heat units falls down through the drop ceiling

Re: Track Lights

Yeah, the ceiling grid is only permitted to support fixtues if the grid manufacturer says it's rated for X amount of fixture support. Your inspector is being generous by letting you add a tie wire to the grid.

Here's a tip for next time. Use Caddy's Independant Support Clips to put your lighting track on the ceiling grid. They're really slick. They have a tiny stud that goes down through the track's mounting hole, it wraps around the grid (you can't see it) and has a part that sticks up above the grid to attack your tie wire.
