Re: Taping Outlets/switches

I worked as an instrumentation tech for about fifteen years in the PetroChem industry. I used to always look forward to people seeing me walking & carrying my tools... sometimes in some plants riding a bicycle or a tricycle.

When ever I was approached and asked "Are you an electrician?" I always answered the same, "no not me, my parents were married" . . . .

It was easier than explaining to some numnut that instrument techs were scared of anything over 120VAC . . . . .

I believe that the original topic has been covered. Personality wars should go to PM or e-mail.

I, like others, tape in a cut-in metal box. 99% of the time..no tape. I was working in a large multi-national engineering company that required devices to be taped. The story was that too many of their electrical engineers were getting shocked removing them. I just billed a roll of 33 for their safety.

There is a difference between what's "required" (code wise) and what's "desired" (spec./design wise).

Re: Taping Outlets/switches

My 2 cents on the subject matter is that taping outlets and switches are for amateurs and are not necessary.

Where is the entertaiment value in that?

We had one woman who I tried to train as an electrician. She was young, petite and really cute and was a major distraction on all the jobs. It was funny as hell to see work come to a halt and all the guys falling all over themselves trying to talk to her and do things for her.

A couple times we sent her out to meet an inspector. She only had a couple months experience but always came back with a green tag

She did have a strong will and would work hard to do the necessary tasks. She once single handedly retrieved a 24" fiberglass extension ladder from the top shelf (6.5') of my van. At 6'1", 230#, it is TOUGH for me to do it alone.

She soon tired of the unglamorous life and went to work for one of our suppliers.
