Switch Near Sink

Gentlemen

i would like to put a switch for a garbage disposal and overhead light near a sink in a kitchen that we are remodeling. Is there a minimum distance I have to stay away from the sink?

Please help

Looks like you might need more than "a switch"...I'm going to say use 2 switches.

Just to clarify. How close can I put and electrical box to a sink?

Re: Switch Near Sink

It is not uncommon to find switches for disposals and lighting near sinks. We've installed them within arms reach and above the backsplash on remodels. I've seen a number of disposal swithes under the sink. (I'm not a fan of that, thinking of kids)

Don't know about permissability other than ours have not been questioned by inspectors.

Good Luck
Dave

To me....this reeks of DIY.

4 posts since joining, only 1 of which even remotely has to do with roofing.

No introduction...couldn't even take the time to list a State.

NEC article 4077 (B)(2) says any switch located next to a sink needs to be at least 2 pie lengths from the edge of the basin.

Stick to your pies Celtic!

Awesome! My neck and arms were sore for days after from head banging and fist pumping. Everyone's fists in the air at the same time shouting HAY! made me feel like I was watching a Nazi rally on the History Channel.
