Subpanel wire size.

For a 100 amp sub panel 60 feet from the main what size wire do I need?
For a 50 amp same distance what size wire?
It's not actually mine...I was talking to some one that was going to install a 50 amp with 6/3 I thought that was small for 60 feet.

Since 6/3 is an NM sheathed cable it's good for 55 amps but you cannot install it inside any sort of conduit so forget that idea. What you need is obviously conduit and minimum #3 THWN for 100 amps. Disconnect and ground rods at the detached garage.

Thanks mag...I think this guys garage is attached so I don't know if he was talking about buriable wire or routing wire through the building or what. Thanks for answering. (I know I know I'm a doof for not mentioning that to begin with)
