Stripping Uf Cable


Hey guys I was just curious. I was putting in a new post light at my house and as I was stripping the uf cable I was thinkin boy I wonder if there is a tool for this. Is there a tool for stripping it? What are some tricks you guys use to strip it with out knicking the wire?

Yeah, Seatek makes a really nice one, and King makes a cheapie that would be good for a homeowner or DIY.

Sorry to learn that you ran UF cable. If you'd have called an electrician, he'd have run pipe and pulled conductors. You'll think of me in a few years when you're digging your ditch again.

Especially if he poured concrete all over the cable when setting the post.

I use a utility knife, slice a separation between white and ground, pull out the white, then the ground, and finally the ungrounded conductor.

You also want to stay away from using UF in the winter time.

The specialty tools are OK, but I prefer a small utility knife. Score along the middle on each side, cutting hard in the last inch. Pull out the ground, which splits the cable, the black and white come out easily after that.

The real PITA are the /3 UF cables!

Thanks for the info guys. The cable dosen't go through the concrete but heck in a couple of years it might give me something to do over the weekend
