Something I Found In Our Home's Kitchen
When adding some stone back splash to our kitchen and turning off the breakers for the outlets I found this to be strange.
I have 3 GFCI duplex outlets on the counter along with other protected duplex outlets. 2 of the GFCIs are on the same circuit. Is this not wrong? Did the sparky just stick it in to make it look good or what? I have been under the assumption that one GFCI per circuit is proper. |

Eh, he might have done that to keep the frige off the GFCI, if the circuit started at counter space on one side of the frige, and continued at counter space at the other side of the frige. Just a guess. Don't get too worked up about it.

Re: Something I Found In Our Home's Kitchen
Thats not the case and I am not worried about it just found it odd.
The room goes like this fridge on right end of L shaped counter. Then a GFCI for the stove and one other outlet. Sink, then the two GFCIs on the left end of the L. Thanks for the quick reply. |

Re: Something I Found In Our Home's Kitchen
Couldn't just been a goof, too. I'm sure I've occasionally put in the extra GFCI by accident. I try to leave my ruff in such a way that I can tell (visually) which boxes need GFCI's just by looking quickly at the box makeup. Sometimes, tile guys and drywallers will mix things around in the box. That screws me up every once in a while. No biggie.

Hey MD, Which conductors do you identify for gfi, line or load? Just curious. I strip off a piece of romex sheath about 2 inches and write "line" with a felt pen and slip that over my wires. Works for me and I leave the sheath on when I trim for the future amateurs that may have to change out the device.

I'm not MD, but I'll reply anyway
Usually around here most electricians strip 1/2" of insulation from the line hot and line neutral.

Re: Something I Found In Our Home's Kitchen
I either tag both conductors with a pice of romex jacket, or skin out a little bit of the hot and neutral of the line side. Whatever way suits me on any given day. If I only have two cables, I don't mark them. The left most cable is always my line side.

Re: Something I Found In Our Home's Kitchen
Neither the NEC or the manufacturer's of the devices prohibit the installation of a gfi receptacle outlet downstream fed off of another gfi device. There is nothing wrong with it. It might cause a bit of inconvienience to whoever has to go searching for the right button to reset however. You know when you are at a construction site and you plug in your gfi pigtail box into a gfi outlet provided for the workers you are doing the exact same thing.
