Some People Are Retarded.

Got a goofy phonecall from a frantic customer. Did a panel change Friday afternoon. For reasons not all that clear to me, the lineman decided to unhang the transformer primary instead of cutting the secondary at the house. Don't matter to me either way, but the end result is the same. About the time I was finishing up, the lineman came back and rehung the primary. Naturally, the meter was still unplugged and my new main was off. Both myself and the lineman could hear unusual buzzing and clicking from the pole top transformer. It was obvious that the transformer had failed.

Well, in any event, I was done with my work, and the lineman had a call in for another truck to bring over a new transformer. It was supper time for me. I left my main off, explained to the customer (female) that the power company had a little work to finish up and she should have power real soon. I went home and had supper... Friday evening.

Got a call a while ago... "Hey, when is my power going to be back on?". I asked her if the power company ran into trouble. She said that they did knock on the door and told her they were all done yesterday evening. JEEZE... I asked her, "Did anyone turn the main breaker back on?". You can guess... nobody did. I (mistakenly) thought that the lineman or her would have had the sense to do so. I guess not.

I guess it's really my fault for not asking the lineman to snap it back on, or expressly telling the customer to turn it on when the POCO was done, but holy cow. You can't win sometimes. She'd been the best part of a couple days without power because the main was still off.

People are scared of turning electrical things on w/o someones say-so. Reasonably IMO. Though I understand what you're saying, had a customer who called two days after the job was done asking if they could use their new toilet! Never occurred to me to explicitly give them permission to take a dump!

Yeah, particularly since you know that there are many jobsites where guys are taking dumps in toilets that aren't even hooked up fully yet. Sump pits are another popular spot.

Bad enough for her to be that dumb . . .

But for it to take that long??

Re: Some People Are Retarded.

Quite a few years ago, we built a new house for a middle aged professional office type of fella. Very well educated and books up the wazoo. About two months after closing, he called and said his casement windows have been leaking when it rains. I go to the house and take a look inside at the windows from inside first. I just laughed, the "highly intelligent, highly educated" idiot didn't know enough to pull down the lock, which pulls in the crank out window tight. He was just cranking them closed and thought that's all you have to do. I showed him the locking lever, and he acted kind of pissed that no one explained that to him before.

My neighbor, (ER Doctor), asked me to look at his well pump that he tried and tried to get working. I went over and flipped the switch and it worked great. Some of those Doctors are scarey.

Re: Some People Are Retarded.

I got a call a few months ago, - - the light on one of the (5) ceiling fans I had installed was not working (they had already tried a new bulb).

Hmm, - - maybe the wall switch went bad??

I drove the 12 or so miles to get there, - - and proceded to 'pull the chain' . . .
