Solar Duct Bank

So we are currently sub contracting a small project doing concrete and structural steel work for a commercial carport which will have solar panels installed once we complete our portion. GC asked me last week to install the duct bank (conduit, depending on where you are or which version of the english language you speak). This requires 2 - 4" ducts. now they call last night and also need a 2" added.

I do concrete not solar, but why such large pipe and so many? I was at the electrical wholesaler picking up the pipe yesterday afternoon and the counter guy was telling me that solar installers 'have no budget or concept of money'. Basically they buy the most expensive and biggest of everything and get away with it. He's telling me 4" is not needed. Mind you this guy works a counter and is not in the field.
