Smoke Detector Info For Residential Applications


i have an inspector on one of my jobs telling me i need smoke detectors in areas where im sure they are not needed. can anybody point me in the direction where i can find info on smoke detector placement in detail. im hoping to prove him wrong.

Where's your inspector telling you they're needed? Is this resi or comm? Makes a big difference. This is not covered in the NEC. It's covered in the IRC for resi and the IBC for comm. I can give you code citations if you wouldn't mind being a little less vague in your query.

its these domed transfer hallways between 2 seperate hallways which smoke detectors are installed within 12 inches from peak of ceiling. these domes do have higher ceilings but i cant find any rock solid info on these "vestibules." if im wrong fine but ive been wiring for this builder for quite some time and all of a sudden johnny newguy comes in ball bustin.
