Single Garage Receptacle
I think I can do this, but wanted to make sure.
I have a customer that bought a new treadmill. The directions state "Not compatible with GFCI circuits" and sure enough it will trip the outlet. Customer wants a dedicted circuit for the treadmil. Can I put this on a single receptacle and meet the code?

Re: Single Garage Receptacle
Technically I would think no. There is no exception for things like this. Unless you can place the receptacle in the dedicated space for the treadmill. Maybe in the floor underneath?
![]() I must say, I don't know of anyone who would balk at installing a non-GFI single for it though. No joke, how about the ceiling? Will the cord reach?

Re: Single Garage Receptacle
I ran into the same situation when putting a treadmill receptacle in an unfinished basement. I just did a single receptacle, mostly because I didn't think about the ceiling idea. Actually, I think that ceiling was less that 8 feet, so it wouldn't have excluded it from the GFCI requirement anyhow. What's a fella to do? Refuse, and let them talk about the handyman who's so smart that wired it up for them anyhow and how dumb you were because you "couldn't figure out how"... or just put in a single non-GFCI receptacle and move on? It's your call, but there's no good compliant way to go unless you do a floor receptacle under the treadmill, and that ain't gonna happen 99.99999% of the time.

Re: Single Garage Receptacle
Thanks guys. don't think he wants pay to have his floor cut out, and he has 9' ceilings, so I quess it will be a single receptacle.
