Re: Shame On Me, I Did It

Why should people have to lobby........I am not sure of the laws in the US but here it is illegal to do electrical if you are not licensed unless it is your own house. PERIOD!!!!!

Did I stutter?

True, electricity at any level can be dangerous, but obviously 480 is more dangerous than 120. Heck, I can touch my thumb and index finger to a 120V line, and have to squeeze to feel anything. Wouldn't try that with higher voltages.

It's all relative, whether you want to admit it or not. How many licensed drivers die on our highways each year, as opposed to those deaths caused by unlicensed hacks wiring up an outlet?

Re: Shame On Me, I Did It

Large trucks are for sale but you need a CDL to drive them.

Alcohol is in almost every grocery store but you need to be of a certain age to buy it.

Fireworks.

Firearms.

Hell, even to marry people you need to be licensed.

You're missing the point. Just because something it available does NOT mean it can and should be used by everyone.

So are you telling me, just because a big box store sells electrical components, they're not dangerous in the wrong hands?

Re: Shame On Me, I Did It

I find it amusing how people find it ok to do un-licensed electrical work or plumbing work.... and the b1tch about all of the illegals do unlicensed work. They are called hacks.... and others are "just getting by"

I think a more responsible attitude would be telling people how to do electrical work right.

Why? You can just buy all the stuff you need at HD and Lowes and cobble it together and make it work.

Oh boy.

I notice it doesn't say "successfully do".

No one can do everything properly.

Can you diagnose an electrical problem accurately over the phone?

Not with any confidence you can't. The entire picture needs to be taken into account.
