Question

Romex To Steam Pipe Clearance?


Is there a code on romex to heat pipe, in my case steam pipe? I can get 6 to 8 inches clearance. Thanks..

Nothing in the code. Romex is sized off the 60º celcius chart, so presumably you can locate it anyplace the temperature won't exceed 140º Fahrenheit. Seems like keeping it 6 or 8 inches away would probably suffice. If ambient will exceed 140, then you'd need to derate.

I think I'll make an isolation soffit/chase /bulkhead for the wires. Steam pipe is bigger than hotter and I've seen hw at 230 or 240*. it's for my own house and I might last another 30 years and i don't want to have to fix anything. Thanks.
