Recessed Can Light Keeps Turning ON And OFF
I have 8 recessed can lights in the kitchen and two of them keeps turning ON and OFF. It will stay ON for 10 minutes and then turned OFF for sometimes before it came back up. It almost looks like it is getting too hot and turned it OFF to cool thing down. It only happens to two of the lights.
Anyone has any clue? |

Check the lamps in those two fixtures to make sure they are not higher than the fixture/trim is rated for. After you do that call an electrician to see if you have any hidden stuff you need to be concerned about. My advise is not to try to fix it yourself.

Re: Recessed Can Light Keeps Turning ON And OFF
One of two things, both of which are actually not wiring related:
1) Too large of a lamp size. Fixture getting too hot. 2) Non-IC cans with insulation around cans, or two close to cans. Also getting too hot. There is a third scenario. I had a boss back a few years ago that didn't like the fact that the lamps stuck so far down out of the can with Halo IC fixtures,so he raised the socket bracket/heat shield. This is a big no-no. IC cans are designed to work as shipped and the sockets should never be adjusted.

Re: Recessed Can Light Keeps Turning ON And OFF
There is a thermostat in the light. I have seen some be more sensitive than others..But if you have the proper wattage REFLECTOR Bulb installed there should be no prob. unless you have insulation piled around a light that is not rated for it.(non-ic)
ic=for use with insulated ceiling non-ic= for use with non insulated ceiling ic can be used without an insulated ceiling but not the other way around |
