Question For Electrician...
I got a 12' pc of wire from a job I worked on and want to know if it would work for an extension cord for a 220 volt electric welder? The cord says
STW-A, 14/3, CSA Type ST, Water Resistant. I'm thinking it is a bit too light for this but would make a good 110 volt extension cord. Any thoughts? rj |

Re: Question For Electrician...
What is the maximum amp draw for the welder?
14 sounds like it would be too small for it. As for making an extension cord, buying a pair of ends would probably cost more than a new 25' cord.

Starting a snow blower. Christmas lights. Energizing a roaster or coffee maker on a kitchen island that doesn't have any receptacles in it.

Re: Question For Electrician...
As someone else stated #14 awg is probably way too small for a 220v welder. Usually they have at least a 10 awg down to a #6 awg , So Cord which is a rubber coated cord that is real flexible & will take alot of abuse. Don't ever undersize a wire or cable or extension cord !!

For the price of a 14AWG extension cord you couldn't even buy the plug and receptical for your wire. What you have we refer to as "scrap" which gets thrown in my wire bin labled "scrap" which every few months gets taken to the "scrap yard". Hearin' me out? |

Ok I got it. I won't be using it for a welder. Thanks for the input everyone.
