Pump Motor Wiring

I had to pull my submersible pump from my well today. I messed up and forgot to mark the leads before I disconnected them from disconnect. The cable is Centriline Submersible Pump Cable 10awg. I used ohm meter and checked between the leads to try to figure which one is ground and which are the hot leads. There are no markings on the cable besides the brand info. The letters I am using here are my marks.
A-C 1.3M ohms 176K ohms
A-B 1.3M ohms 172K ohms
B-C 3.7 ohms 4.0 ohms

I would appreciate any guidance as to determining which leads are which. Thanks

Re: Pump Motor Wiring

If this is a two-wire pump (2 wires, plus ground) , I'd say that "A" is your ground, and "B" and "C" are your two hot wires. I'm a bit troubled that your readings from hot to what I presume is ground aren't higher. Is it possible that you have a bad splice someplace? I'd like to see infinity readings for that one, rather than something showing up under ohms.

If this is a 3-wire pump (3 wires plus ground, going to a starter box with a capacitors and such) then you're readings are all F'd up, and you need to take your readings again to double check.

Re: Pump Motor Wiring

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a 2 wire pump. It is possible that I do have a bad splice. I could have strained the splice while I was working on it. I will pick up a splice kit at Lowes and pull the pump and remake the splice at the pump. I did not mess with the splice when I had the pump out today. I believe the pump was OK electrically. I pulled it because it would not maintain pressure. I pulled the pump and put a check valve at the top of the pump. I will double check the ohm readings tomorrow.

Yeah, I know it's a lot of money, but you'd have been further ahead to just replace the pump. The impellers wear, and that's how they get. I have a feeling you'll be right back in the same boat.
