Pouches

I went back to work this week fulltime as an electrician, I have not done this fulltime for 14 yrs or so and was wondering what everyone was using for pouches theese days. I really would like to buy a padded belt and just use the klien tool pouch I have already. the belt I am using just isnt cutting it for 8 hour days.

by the way wtf is up with sparkys theese days not wearing a set of pouches? the apprentice and the JW running the job just throw a few tools in their pockets and drag boxes of fittings or wirenuts around with them and then when they need a tool they don't have in their pocket they walk to the other side of the job and get what they need out of their toolbox. the app has a tool belt that he leaves sit on the floor and the JW does not even have a belt that I have seen. very inefeciant outfit.

Re: Pouches

Some people are on a kick nowadays about bags being bad for your back. I can't function without one. I use the Klein 5167 mostly. I did post a picture of my rig a while back. Let me see if I can find that thread.

Here you go... my responses are in posts #2 and #5.

Among those of us sparkies who still wear bags, the trend is toward some sort of suspension rig (suspenders). It sure is nicer for your back.

Re: Pouches

Belts are essential(just ask batman, lol), but not always. Not sure what sort of job your on, but as a classic example for residential work; if you're pulling romex, a belt only slows you down; if you're making up boxes, a belt just make sense.

On commercial I like a material cart and my Klein lineman bag(wide open on the inside and lots of pockets to keep things organized), industrial I like a stocked van

I got my belt 9 years ago, had to cheat home depot because they wouldn't sell what I wanted seperately, it's a clc with a paddd inner belt.

I can see how they would be rough on your back if you have suspenders, but if you wear them around your waste then what's the problem.

On that job I think someone just needs to set the example, especially to the apprentice.

Re: Pouches

I use an Oxy Leather "Pro Commercial" belt set. Expensive but worth it.

These are the only pouches that have lasted me more than two years (it's been about 4-5 actually), and they still have twice the life left in them.

I wear them every day, all day.
Sorry, not so true. I wear a Carhartt apron for residential rough in. You need far less tools for this so it's a hammer, linemans, screw driver, dykes, knife, strippers, Sharpie, tape (measure), and a LOT of staples and crimps.
This is maybe 10% of the time.

Re: Pouches

I also use the Occidental leather pro-electrician series. I switched to leather about 3 years ago and have not had a sore back since. The cordura belts are to bulky in my mind.
