For what type of work? Service, new construction, remodels? Commercial? Industrial?

What is your specialty?

For electrical service. I have no problems with finding jobs to bid. I just need more service calls from HO's and business to help in between jobs.

This gets sticky and takes time to develop. I've found that advertising in church circulars and calendars is one very good form of advertising.

If you're running an ad in the newspaper, then include a coupon for a freebie or for a discount on the service call.

Offer free inspections while you're there at the house. More work, less driving time = lower expenses and more profit per job.

Doing a remodel? Check the rest of the house out for free. Offer a discount on additional work performed during your remodel work visits.

Print a discount on the back of your business card and offer to do small jobs for a flat rate (change out any single or duplex receptacle for $$44.99 with this card only). This can help with word of mouth.

Be nosy. If you see problems in a local eateries, ask to see the manager and pass along a card. Let him know you can take care of it. Don't forget to thank him for the good service and compliment the good food, either.

I think the business card/coupon is great idea. I need to order some more and will get them printed on back. You know good for first time customers on first service call. I think my next big ad expense will have my whole van painted. Right now I just have white van with the 2' by 18" magnetic sign. That way when they see ads or cards they will have seen my van around town doing work and they will have a familiarity with me.

Are you ****ting me $44.99 to change 1 duplex receptacle. Doesn't sound like a deal to me.

By whose standard? Yours? Can you go to a home, consult with a client and do the job for less? Do you have to charge more?

Your response, while certainly emotional, wasn't that persuasive. I'm not sure if you feel it was too high a price or too low a price.

I suppose if that's all your doing is the one swap out then yah you have a deal. But what if they want say ten switches swapped for new?? I that now 450.00 or are the extra switches tagged in at a lower/higher rate?
