Ok Seriously Folks...

Ok, I am talkting to my cousins hack husband about electrical, and he feeds me this line when I critiqued his work. "so yeah I installed all metal boxes in my house. I dont want my house to burn down because of those stupid plastic boxes!" I tried to inform him about fire ratings and that they were perfectly safe, but he argued for an hour with me (even after I had dropped it several times) about how metal boxes would prevent a fire from spreading if a it started inside the box...

I mean come on, how many electrical fires have there been that the building was saved because of metal boxes. Or even because of plastic?

IMO its just another "to twist or not to twist" topics, but the guy really chaps my ass.

Ask him which way he will install the recepts.....ground up/ground down ~ which ever position he takes, you take the opposite

Vertical Screws is a MUST especially on a Double gang!!!!

But you are sadly misguided concerning the "Ground Up" sentiment.....

Re: Ok Seriously Folks...

Actually the only times I ever did ground up was in a dentists office and a hospital...

I pose this question then.... If its a floor outlet, which way is up?!?!?

I really dont know which is actually better. I myself prefer fiberglass boxes. They wont catch fire too easy, holes are pre-threaded and you dont have to worry about bumping the device on the side of the box when live. I know, I am suppose to kill the circuit before working on it too.

Re: Ok Seriously Folks...

A few months ago I was having a terrible day. I couldn't do ANYTHING right. My boss picked up on it and thought he'd had some fun, told me to find all of the plate screws that are upside-down and correct them. What really got to me was that it was almost five minutes of frustrated searching before logic squeezed past the anger and frustration in my mind. He just laughed and said take the day off before I mess up anything that couldn't be fixed easily. Just a random, BAD day...

And I don't need no stinkin' ground! Ground up, ground down...only that Ohm fella cares about such and what's he know?
