Not A Sparky But Your Thoughts Would Be Appreciated.

Hi guys, I'm calling it quits in the States and moving to Ireland in a few weeks. Here is my dilemma. I have a 60" wide full fridge full freezer in my house at the minute and wan't to bring one home. The problem is the voltage. US is 110 Ireland is 230v. Not only this but US is 50hz amd Ireland is 60hz. How can I step down the voltage and up the frequency so I don't blow the unit. Was going to bring back a few outlets from here anyway but before the outlet I'll need to step it down. Any thoughts guys?

You can easily change 230v to 110 with a converter sold just about anywhere. WalMart, the airport gift shop, Radio Shack.....

The frequency will be the problem. If you want to spend the money for a fequency convertor, you sure can. But I'd just buy another fridge & freezer when I get to the Land of Taters. I can't imagine what the shipping would be.

(BTW, I think you got the frequencies mixed up. US is 60, Ireland is 50 )

Thanks for the quick reply. Reason I'm bringing one of these bad boys home is that you can't buy them over there. Found a place in the UK that makes adaptor/transformers for about 80 bucks so I think that will be the way to go.

Voltage and frequency, and with enough capacity to run both units? (Or are you thinking of getting two?) Eighty clams seems awful short of that capability.

Check load capacity carefully. I know few places that sale around that price but it only small appliances. Transformer alone will run about $300-400 let alone the converter.

$80 for each device. I'm going to call them today to verify, don't want to burn it out within 6 months.I know looks can be decieving, but they look pretty heavy duty. All jobsite tools in the UK are run off 110v so the transformers are pretty common place, it's the Hz that screw things up.

Do you have a make & model number? Maybe you/we could Google it and find some specs on it.

PLRH1779GS It's a Frigidaire. I've previously contacted Frigidaire to see if it was available in Ireland or the UK btut it's not. Even asked them if they could custom make me one but to UK or Irish specs but got stone walled. Any help would be great. I love this thing, great unit, and am determined to have one at home.

US is 60Hz and Ireland is 50 Hz.

Just get an equivelent motor to drive eveything that runs on 230vac 50Hz and do a transplant. Otherwise a frequ convertor and a step down transformer will be required.

500VA voltage/frequ convertors start at around $2K

I meant model & make of the converter.
