NEC Code Lookup

Is there a website which provides free access to look up particular code sections. I looked around around a bit and saw many places to buy a code book. I would think that the Government would have provided access to this. If so I can't find it.

Free?

Free access to the NEC?
I wish!
I have never seen it ...
The NEC is produced and published by the NFPA, a private organization supported by membership and product sales.
It isn't a government agency...

NFPA used to have a free link to look at the 05 code. I just went to it and it is not there anymore!

Nice find, though

I only ever looked at it once. Not sure if it's a pain or not. We still use the 2002 until July and I already have both paper copys. I also have the electrical pal, the NEC small residential guide and the same guide for commercial. I highly recomend them nice to have the code fit in your pocket for what your doing at the time.

Ken, you like those pocet guides? I hate mine! Who was the genius who decided to mix up the index and rearrange the order of the articles? Plus a bunch of important stuff is missing.
No sir. I don't like it.

At the same time I know many guys who do not like the NEC handbook CD version. I love that and use it all the time.
I had 1999 on CD but lost it. I have 2002, 2005, 2005 handbook and 2005 handbook on CD. Along with several much earlier versions back to '87.

That online version is nice if you do not have a CD. It can be a pain though as others have mentioned.

Two of the pocket guides I use most are from the NFPA. They are just condenced into seperate residential and commercial books. It's something I can carry around in a pocket or tool bag much easier then the full code book. Alot of the work I do involves value engineering or on the fly reworking of the engineers blueprints. Alot of the hospitals will give the contract and then ask me to value engineer it as I go along. The only local electrical engineer kind of over does things abit. Just bid one furny store where the 2 panels needed to be custom built from SquareD and everything was designed as pipe work. When the materials come to $65,000 I'm again called on to value engineer it. I think I get alot of my bigger jobs because I am able to get the price down while still being up to code. Although I wish I could get a better handle on the bidding of residential.

BTW I would love to have the codes on Cd but there a bit expensive. Do they work on a PDA? I like portability but don't want to walk around the construction site with my laptop.
