Microwave Antennae Exposure?
We are GC's bidding on a metal awning removal on a 7 story building and at one of the corners there is a microwave antennae point angling towards where we have to work to remove the awning. Should we be worried?
Someone said that exposure to the microwaves is extremely dangerous, which makes sense but trying to get a handle on the best way to deal with it. Any idea's? thanks |

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
If you notice a tail growing, I would be concerned.
Yes microwave installations can have dangers, don't ask the cell company for information, because they will tell you growing a tail is normal, they will read from their puplic intrest spript, the earth is flat story, have the area checked, by the city, or state health department. |

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
We had a scaffold erecting co. come give us a bid on some scaffolding and he said (based on his experience) that the max. each worker can be exposed is a cumulative of 7 (seven) minutes total for the whole job!
The antanae is literally 5 feet away from the work area. Anybody know where I can get some lead underwear? |

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
Have you contacted your local OSHA office about this? I would think they would have the latest data or at least the pass/fail requirements for any testing for safe exposure.

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
Is it a transmitter or a receiver?
Maybe you could get some useful information from the outfit that it belongs to. Surely they aren't up for frying innocent bystanders. I think I'd start by walking inside the building that it's attached to and asking some questions.

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
Alternately, you could put a Snickers
bar in one pocket, and a pack of Orville Redenbacher in the other. If one melts or the other pops.... quitting time! ![]()

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
It has been my experience that you get shocks from working near high RF energy antennas. I don't know about microwave antennas. I suspect very much that these may just be receivers.

Thanks for all of the ideas and links.
My next question is buttered or unbuttered? |

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
The odds are that it IS a receiver and therefore poses NO threat to your Gonads nor your Cerebral and Spinal fluids. But....Check and be sure.

Re: Microwave Antennae Exposure?
^Why do you assume that? In almost every case, a tranceiver is attached to that antenna. Under no terms would I accept that job unless I had the opportunity to cut the coax first!
