MCB/RCD Tripping In Wet
Hi All
I have recently been to a ladies house to assist in a tripping RCD on the lighting circuit. (Hager Consumer Unit). I isolated the circuit and tested for insulation and found none between phase and neutral. I traced the circuit to the first connection block in the loft (there are 100s of these) and disconnected the distribution at this point. Tested for insulation whilst disconnected and connected phase and neutral and confirmed continuity. Connected the circuit up to the connection block and no trip. I then connected just the bathroom lighting to the circuit and confirmed 240v at the fitting but as soon as i placed load on the circuit(i.e fitting and bulb) the RCD tripped. Any solutions? JC |

Re: MCB/RCD Tripping In Wet
If this is a recently fitted board or RCD, you probably are sharing a neutral between upstairs and downstairs, or from one circuit to another. I know this is a problem when refitting RCD's in older domestic situations. Might want to lift the neutral of the circuit in question and test for continuity between that neutral tail and the other neutrals in the board. Beyond that, I'm not of much help. There are mostly only US sparks here, so you might want to check out a UK electrical site such as http://www.electriciansforums.co.uk
