Lightning Protection Test Clamp


I normally put the lightning protection down conductors to have a test point @1m above the ground level

I have seen that the connection at the earth rods can be used as the test clamp location; I understand that this will eliminate the need for any visible tape. However, is there any drawback of doing this such as from practical point of view for testing, etc ?
